Causes

Research has identified different causes triggering the exploitation of the children in the official armies and paramilitary groups. Specifically, we tried to distinguish between direct and indirect causes on the base of the relevance to the existence of the child soldiers. As such,  an armed conflict, absence of the effective mechanisms to secure children rights,  absence of international and domestic penalties, technological development of weapons were found to be the primary causes. On the other hand family, poor civilian employment and educational opportunities (poor outside options), ease of manipulation and indoctrination of children, militarization and violence in the society, and lack of security can be counted as the secondary causes that reinforce the primary ones’.
